July 1st, according to renowned journalist Haynes, Chris Paul is expected to sign with the San Antonio Spurs.
NBA insider Woj later confirmed that Paul has agreed to a one-year contract worth over $11 million with the Spurs.
Haynes mentioned that Paul had enjoyable conversations with Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich and was drawn to the team’s culture and opportunities. He is also expected to help Victor Wembanyama improve his on-court performance.
It was previously reported that the Warriors are likely to waive Paul, making him an unrestricted free agent.
Last season, Paul played 58 regular-season games for the Warriors, averaging 9.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, 6.8 assists, and 1.2 steals per game.
Paul’s salary for next season was $30 million, but it was non-guaranteed, meaning the Warriors wouldn’t have to pay that amount upon waiving him.
