On June 26, news emerged that the Houston Rockets are gearing up for a major trade this summer.
Recently, an unusual trade involving only draft picks took place. The Brooklyn Nets and the Rockets agreed on a deal where the Nets sent their 2025 first-round pick swap with the Phoenix Suns, a 2027 Suns first-round selection, a 2029 first-round pick, and a 2029 pick swap, in exchange for a 2025 pick swap and a 2026 first-round pick from Houston.
According to reports, the Rockets’ true motive behind this move was to position themselves to trade for Kevin Durant.
However, renowned sports journalist Brett Siegel revealed that, “the Suns have no intention of trading Kevin Durant,” and he suggested that “if the Rockets are indeed looking for a star, Paul George or Brandon Ingram might be the targets during the draft night.”
Per Woj, even if acquiring Durant through a trade proves unattainable, the Rockets will remain committed to their “major upgrade” plan, with Zach LaVine and DeMar DeRozan also appearing as potential targets.
