On July 19, the NBA Summer League continues with the Lakers and the Cavaliers facing off, both playing back-to-back games.
The Lakers have garnered unprecedented attention this summer after drafting Bronny in the draft. However, Bronny’s previous performance was rather poor, averaging only 4.3 points over four Summer League games, shooting 7 out of 31 from the field, and 0 out of 15 from three-point range. Jaylen Brown believes that, based on Bronny’s skills, he is not a qualified professional player.
However, Bronny can be considered somewhat motivated. In the game against the Hawks on July 18, Bronny shot 5 out of 11 for 12 points, including 2 out of 5 from three-point range.
Whether Bronny’s sudden outburst is a fleeting moment or a persistent rise, the performance of this No. 55 rookie deserves continued attention.
In the game against the Hawks, Castleton’s performance stood out even more. This undrafted second-year player shot 8 out of 9 for 14 points, 12 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals, especially scoring 7 consecutive points at the last minute to secure the Lakers’ victory.
Hinson, who signed a two-way contract with the Lakers previously, hit 4 three-pointers for 14 points.
Knecht, selected by the Lakers with the 17th pick in this year’s draft, missed the game against the Hawks. In the previous game against the Celtics, Knecht scored 19 points, and his performance throughout the Summer League has been quite good.
The Cavaliers’ overall performance in this year’s Summer League has been relatively average. On July 18, the Cavaliers lost 85-96 to the Warriors. Only three players scored in double digits: Porter Jr. with 14 points, Bates with 13 points, and Carter-Torres with 12 points. Their offensive efficiency was not high, with field goal percentages no higher than 40%.
This year, the Cavaliers selected Jalen Tyson with the 20th pick in the draft. This versatile forward scored in double digits in two consecutive games but shot only 2 out of 6 for 4 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists against the Warriors.
Bates and Porter Jr., two second-year rookies, are currently the Cavaliers’ best-performing players in the Summer League as a whole.
Since both teams, the Lakers and the Cavaliers, are playing back-to-back games, it is uncertain what lineups they will field. The performances of players such as Bronny, Knecht-Lewis, etc., are also significant highlights of this game.
