On July 11th, the Salt Lake City NBA Summer League continues with a match between the Jazz and the 76ers.
Both teams have already played two games in the Summer League. The 76ers beat the Thunder 102-92 in their first game, but lost to the Grizzlies 85-87 in their second game.
In the past two games, four players from the 76ers scored in double digits each time, with three players scoring in double digits in both games: Jeff Doughty, “Magic Boy” McCain, and Almar. Jeff Doughty signed a two-way contract with the 76ers last season, averaging 4.3 points and 2.3 assists per game over 12 appearances.
“Magic Boy” McCain, as the 16th pick this year, has been receiving much attention, scoring 15 points in one game and 12 in another, performing largely up to expectations.
Undrafted player Consillio scored 29 points in his first game and 7 in his second, showing some inconsistency, but overall, he had a good performance.
Well-known player RJ Hampton is also on the 76ers’ Summer League roster. In the first game, RJ Hampton played for 15 minutes, shooting 2-for-3 to score 8 points. He did not play in the second game.
The Jazz won their first game against the Grizzlies 97-95 in overtime and lost 75-98 to the Thunder after resting Kessler and Keon Johnson in their second game.
Compared to the 76ers, the Jazz’s Summer League lineup can be described as luxurious.
Kessler, now in his third year, has established himself in the NBA. Recently, Kessler has become a commodity being traded at market value.
Keon Johnson, who is also in his second year, played 75 games last season, averaging 13 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game, making the All-Rookie Second Team.
Hendricks, also in his second year, had a consistent performance, playing 40 games last season and averaging 7.3 points and 4.6 rebounds per game.
Due to the Jazz’s rotation in the second game, only Sensabo scored in double digits in both games. George exploded for 30 points in the first game and made a game-winning free throw in overtime. Players on the fringes like Lofton and Bazley also performed well.
This year, the Jazz drafted three players in the draft. Cody Williams, the 10th pick, scored 6 points in one game and 7 in another, his slender physique making him look somewhat out of his depth.
The big center Filipovski scored 0 points with 4 rebounds in one game and 4 points with 5 rebounds in another, seemingly unadjusted even in the Summer League.
Collier, an alumnus of Brown University, performed slightly better, scoring 14 points with 6 rebounds and 6 assists in one game and 8 points in the other. His biggest advantage was that he dared to play whenever he had the ball.
From a team’s paper strength perspective, the Jazz have a certain advantage. However, how motivated players such as Kessler and George are for this game remains questionable, and the direction of the game is uncertain due to personnel changes and questions about motivation.
