On July 16, the Denver Nuggets officially announced that Darren Holmes had undergone surgery to repair his right Achilles tendon. The surgery was performed by Dr. Kenneth Hunter at the UCHealth Steadman Hawkins Clinic in Denver.
Updates on Holmes’ condition will be provided later. However, it is speculated that this Achilles tear will likely rule him out for the entire 2024-25 season, as recovery from such an injury typically takes around a year.
Despite this setback, Holmes appears to be in good spirits. Regarding his injury, he shared via social media, “The surgery went well today. I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has reached out and shown support. It’s heartwarming to see so many people care about me. It’s a testament to the goodness of people. I believe…I’ll be back, and I’ll recover quickly!”
In a recent Summer League game where the Nuggets lost 78-88 to the Los Angeles Clippers, Holmes sustained the injury. He played for 26 minutes during that game, scoring 11 points.
Drafted in the 22nd round this year, the Nuggets have high hopes for Holmes, expecting him to contribute as a reserve big man. In his recently concluded college season, Holmes averaged 20.4 points and 8.5 rebounds per game.
