On July 13, the NBA Summer League continues with a match-up between the Los Angeles Clippers and the Denver Nuggets.
This marks the first appearance for both the Clippers and the Nuggets in the Summer League. Neither team had a particularly high draft pick this year, with the Clippers selecting Christy at No. 46 overall, who happens to be the younger brother of Lakers’ Christy. The Nuggets, through a trade with the Suns, acquired the No. 22 pick and chose Darren Holmes Jr.
The Clippers are particularly focused on Christy, showing significant interest in him by offering a four-year contract worth $7.9 million. At just 18 years old, Christy played 33 games for the University of Minnesota during the 2023-24 season, averaging 11.3 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists, with a three-point shooting percentage of 39.1%. The Clippers’ roster also includes Kobe Brown and Diabate, adding to their competitive edge.
The Nuggets have suffered some losses this summer, including the departure of champion lineup member Pope. Their main acquisitions have been late-first-round rookies, such as Holmes Jr., whom they aim to develop to bolster their frontline depth. Holmes has considerable potential, having averaged 20.4 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks in 33 games for Dayton University in the 2023-24 season. To aid Holmes’ development, the Nuggets retained Jordan, who can provide valuable mentorship.
This is the first game of the Summer League for both teams, and they will be giving it their all to secure an opening win. It remains to be seen which team will achieve their goal.
