Recently, it was reported that Redick is set to interview with the Lakers for their head coaching position.
Today, insider Shams provided more details about the situation:
“This will be Redick’s second meeting with Pelinka (Lakers’ GM) and the Lakers. They had a meeting during the week of the May 13th Chicago Combine, where they spent two hours together, as per my sources. The Lakers then met with Budenholzer (Pelicans assistant coach) for over two hours in Los Angeles following that (Budenholzer was spotted in LA). That’s the timeline. Budenholzer had two meetings, but throughout this process, the Lakers have shown significant interest in Redick. As I emphasized on my show on May 24th, Redick has been the frontrunner for the Lakers’ head coaching job. The final candidates now boil down to Redick and Budenholzer, and that hasn’t changed (including Helliwell’s involvement), as I reported last Tuesday.”
“The Lakers’ coaching search hasn’t deviated; they need to see more of Redick in these meetings. Of course, Redick also needs to meet with Jeanie Buss and other owners. On May 24th, I mentioned how intriguing this process is, given the timeline aligns with the NBA Draft in two weeks and the Finals, which could end as soon as Friday or Saturday. After that, the Lakers are expected to announce their new head coach.”
