In a recent junior middleweight title bout, reigning IBF champion, the American “Boo Boo” Jaron Ennis (32-0, 29 KOs), lived up to expectations at the Wells Fargo Center in his hometown of Philadelphia, stopping Russian-born Armenian David Avanesyan (30-5-1, 18 KOs) in the fifth round, successfully defending his official IBF 147-pound world title.
This bout was the main event broadcast by DAZN today. Prior to the fight, Ennis was heavily favored with odds of 1-12. There was a significant disparity in ability between the two fighters. Ennis, with superior power, technique, speed, and durability, dominated from the very first round over Avanesyan. Despite showing tenacity, Avanesyan could not match Ennis’s physical attributes and was consistently on the defensive, unable to significantly affect Ennis with his punches. In the fifth round, during a melee, Ennis landed a left hook that knocked Avanesyan down once. Avanesyan got back up to continue fighting, but it was clear he was on his last legs. After the end of the fifth round, Avanesyan’s team conceded the fight.
With this victory, the 27-year-old Jaron Ennis improves his professional record to 32 wins without a loss, with 29 of those victories coming by way of knockout. He now ranks second in the BOXREC 147-pound composite rankings, trailing only Terence Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs). As Crawford and Shawn Porter (28-1, 22 KOs) plan moves up to the 154-pound division, Ennis has become the top-ranked fighter at 147 pounds.
