Recently, WBC Lightweight Champion and three-division world titleholder Shakur Stevenson (22-0, 10 KOs) from the United States told the media that he doesn’t mind joining Mayweather’s TMT Promotions. Stevenson’s contract with Top Rank has already expired, and he turned down a renewal offer for five fights at $15 million.
Stevenson said, “Signing with Mayweather is one of my options. I have great respect for and affection for Mayweather. If it makes sense, I don’t mind working with Mayweather; it’s a business move. After my fight with Hovhannes Bachkov, Mayweather even called me to suggest areas where I could improve to perform better. Mayweather usually doesn’t watch Top Rank events, but he specifically watched my fight. Before Mayweather had a falling out with Gervonta Davis (30-0, 28 KOs), I used to frequently visit the strip club owned by Mayweather to discuss boxing with him.”
The 27-year-old Stevenson was praised by Mayweather as his successor during the 2016 Olympics. Since turning pro, Stevenson has won world titles in three weight divisions, demonstrating undeniable talent, though lacking in power and crowd-pleasing style, he is known as a points specialist.
