Yesterday, Valve Corporation released the regulations for tournaments to be held from 2025 onwards, which included requirements for ranked, non-ranked, and wildcard event organizers. OverDrive shared his thoughts on this.
“· The authoritative HLTV rankings may lose their significance. Valve has simply undermined HLTV with one move.
· With events being divided into ranked and non-ranked categories, there will be changes in the relevant systems, requiring a redesign of data statistics and tournament structures. Without adequate oversight, non-ranked events could lead to rampant cheating.
· Transitioning to ranked events will become more challenging, hindering the emergence of new teams, academy teams, and new players.
· There needs to be a clear criterion for moving from ranked to non-ranked events, and there are doubts about whether Valve has fully considered this.
· Developers are slow to react to issues within the new system.
· There are still many unresolved questions, such as if a tournament is announced half a year in advance, is it necessary to immediately publish the roster list? What happens if a team changes its lineup six months later?
· There’s also a 5% chance that these roster changes go unnoticed. But legally, there should be clearer regulations.
We need to wait and see how this system operates; it might naturally transition, or it might completely collapse the competitive side of the game.”
