According to a report by Nigeria’s largest media outlet, Punch, the Nigerian women’s national football team plans to boycott their first group stage match of the World Cup due to the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) refusing to pay additional World Cup bonuses.

FIFA will provide financial rewards to each player participating in the 2023 Women’s World Cup, with every player receiving at least £24,000. However, many football associations refuse to pay additional bonuses to the players on top of the FIFA reward.

In this edition of the Women’s World Cup, the Nigerian women’s football team is grouped in Group A along with the Australian, Canadian, and Irish women’s teams. Their first match will be against Canada. The star player of the Nigerian women’s team is Barcelona striker Asisat Oshoala.
