After a 0-4 loss to Barcelona, Carlo Ancelotti’s position as head coach has become less secure. According to Spanish media outlet RELEVO, Real Madrid’s management seems to have a plan in mind, preparing to bring back an old friend—Xabi Alonso—to take over from Ancelotti in the summer of 2025.
Many fans are excited about this prospect, given that Alonso not only has a deep connection with Real Madrid from his playing days but also that his football philosophy aligns well with the “White Army” style.
However, this plan does not mean that Ancelotti will be rudely “pushed out.” On the contrary, Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez is being very considerate. He plans to invite Ancelotti to transition into the role of club ambassador. This move would both honor the contributions of this distinguished coach and ensure a smooth transition to the new head coach. Such an arrangement sounds both dignified and practical, recognizing Ancelotti’s past contributions while paving the way for the future.
For Alonso, although he is currently leading Bayer Leverkusen and his contract runs until 2026, it would be hard for him to say no to a call from his former club. Moreover, Alonso had already turned down an offer from Bayern Munich to stay at Leverkusen, seemingly preparing for a return to Real Madrid. If he can indeed come back to the Bernabéu, where he once fought, it would undoubtedly be a dream return for him.
Regardless, any changes are unlikely to happen before next summer, and Ancelotti’s contract with Real Madrid runs until 2026. If he leads the team to success this season, it is entirely possible that the club’s management might change their minds and allow Ancelotti to continue for another year.
