Spanish Media: Flick Pleased with Goalkeeper Pena, Barcelona Hopes to Extend Contract Early

Pena won all three matches against Sevilla, Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid last week, conceding only two goals in total. This has made Hansi Flick very satisfied with his decision, and he is also pleased with the club’s choice.

Barcelona’s intention is to renew his contract. In May 2023, Pena, who joined La Masia as a child, extended his contract, which was due to expire in June 2023, to 2026, thus concluding negotiations that were resolved within a few weeks. The buyout clause was set at 400 million euros with the signing in the office of President Laporta.

The club hopes to begin talks in the coming months, considering that by June 2025, Pena will be entering the final year of his contract, and Marc-André ter Stegen, who is out with a serious knee injury, is expected to return next season, which could extend into the start of the following season. Both parties are confident that they will sit down to talk and ultimately come to an understanding.
