Ligue 1 club Rennes officially announced that renowned Argentine coach Jorge Sampaoli has been appointed as the new manager of the team.
At the age of 64, Sampaoli previously served as the manager of Marseille from 2021 to 2022, leading the team to a second-place finish in the 2021-22 Ligue 1 season. Last year, he briefly coached Brazilian powerhouse Flamengo but was dismissed in September. Since then, he has been unemployed until now, and he will return to coaching after more than a year.
Rennes has had a poor start to the season, securing only 3 wins, 2 draws, and 6 losses in 11 league matches, accumulating 11 points and ranking 13th in the league. The team’s next match will be an away game against Lille, where Sampaoli will make his debut with the club.
