Jakarta – Jorge Martin, the 2023 MotoGP runner-up, has suggested he could join Honda to compete with the factory team.
Martin was not promoted to the Ducati factory squad for this season, despite finishing second last year with the Pramac satellite team.
While staying put at Pramac, Martin began to warn Ducati that he could move elsewhere if not elevated to the coveted factory team.
“If I see that Honda is growing, or in the long term, it can be a superior project, then it’s definitely a good option,” he was quoted as saying by Crash.
The Spaniard says he is currently enjoying his time with Ducati but has set a target of joining the factory team by 2025.
“For 2025, my main priority is 100% the factory team. My goal is the Ducati factory team because this is where I am, I know the bike, and I have many expectations in this factory,” he said.
“If they don’t want me, or they understand that I’m not the best, I will look for another option.
In his contract terms, Martin would have automatically moved to the Ducati factory had he become the World Champion last year. However, he failed to challenge Francesco Bagnaia for the title in MotoGP 2023.
Ducati opted not to promote Martin, allowing Enea Bastianini to remain in the factory team. The Italian rider was chosen by Ducati for a promotion at the end of 2022 but was mainly hindered by injuries in his debut season.
