On November 20, Cassano publicly questioned Roma’s decision to rehire Ranieri in a live video stream. He believes this represents a lack of ambition from the club, aiming only to quickly quell the unrest, and that they should look for someone else to clean up the mess.
Cassano said, “The Friedkin Group doesn’t realize that Romans are not stupid. In my opinion, they are just creating another mess. What did they do? They allowed the environment to become toxic and then expressed their dissatisfaction. Their idea is, since I don’t want to bring back De Rossi, let’s find someone who can calm everyone down. To be frank with this gentleman, he has already stated that he does not want to do it; he said, ‘I don’t want to coach anyone.'”
He added, “So they brought back someone who decided to retire but can calm the fans down. What is Ranieri’s attitude? He is courting the Friedkin Group. It’s like, don’t judge us too quickly, we need to unite, support us because we need you. What can he do in a place like Roma? He can only bring peace and tranquility. But Roma needs something different, someone with real talent, international experience, and grand ambitions, a winner.”
Finally, Cassano questioned the club’s owners, the Friedkin Group: “Please explain to me, what is this move about? Just to quell the unrest? I’m not stupid; I know some people will be happy because Ranieri is back, and he represents the pride of Roma. But this is disgusting. You brought back someone who might become a club executive next year.”
