According to Tuttosport, Italy’s team manager Gianluigi Buffon is contemplating submitting his resignation to the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) due to the national team’s underwhelming performance.
After Italy’s 0-2 defeat to Switzerland, the “Azzurri” were knocked out of the Euro Cup earlier than anticipated. However, head coach Roberto Mancini has no intention of stepping down. Buffon, on the other hand, seems to have different plans. As per Tuttosport, his first attempt at this delicate role within the national team and major tournaments did not unfold as he had hoped. Buffon isn’t disappointed solely because of the loss to Switzerland; rather, it’s the manner of the defeat, the lack of courage, vitality, and fighting spirit in the team that has affected him. He feels that he has failed in his attempt to position himself as an inspirer between the coaching staff and players.
As a result, Buffon is reflecting on his future, although he hasn’t officially tendered his resignation to the FIGC just yet. Nonetheless, this possibility cannot be ruled out. A direct meeting with Gravina and Mancini is imminent to discuss the roadmap for the national team going forward.
