On July 5th, in the Copa América quarterfinals, Argentina advanced after a penalty shootout victory over Ecuador. Following the match, Messi commented that the playing conditions didn’t permit Argentina to accelerate their attacking rhythm.
Messi said, “We knew before the game that it would be very tough, and the match unfolded as we expected. Ecuador has some excellent players.”
