On July 11, the England team staged a comeback victory against the Netherlands 2-1 in the semi-finals of the European Championship held in Germany, setting up a final showdown with Spain. This is also the second consecutive European Championship final that the Three Lions, led by coach Gareth Southgate, have reached.
In the history of the European Championship, only three teams have previously managed to reach the final in two consecutive tournaments: the Soviet Union (1960, 1964), Germany (1972, 1976, 1980 and 1992, 1996) and Spain (2008, 2012). All these teams have championship records: the Soviet Union claimed the title in 1960, Germany triumphed in 1972, 1980, and 1996, and Spain established its dynasty in 2008 and 2012. It remains to be seen whether England, having reached back-to-back Euro finals, can lift the Henri Delaunay trophy for the first time.
The final of this European Championship will kick off at 3 AM on July 15, with Spain facing England.
