The Euro final is imminent, and former Spanish star Juan Mata, speaking to British media talkSPORT, has picked his combined England-Spain best XI, but curiously, not a single English player made the cut.
In the left-back position, he opted for Kukurella over the in-form Luke Shaw. In midfield, it was Ruiz over Mount, and when choosing between Gavi and Saka, he went with the former. His reasoning was almost identical: “I like Luke Shaw, I like Mount, but Kukurella and Ruiz have been outstanding in this Euros.”
Mata, who won the Euro 2012 title with the Spanish national team and was also part of the victorious 2010 World Cup squad in South Africa, believes that Spain’s current starting eleven has what it takes to overcome England and claim the tournament crown: “I predict that Spain will win 2-1 in extra time, with the score being 1-1 after 90 minutes, and then Spain scoring the decisive goal in extra time to clinch the victory.”
