On July 16th, Southgate resigned from his position as England’s head coach today. Renowned British broadcaster Richard Keys harshly criticized Southgate, stating that he should have departed after the 2022 World Cup, wasting two golden opportunities at the Euros.
He said, “Southgate should have left after the 2022 World Cup; he wasted two prime chances to win the Euros. Wembley was built for victories, and now we need someone to inspire these talented players. Go get Klopp, he’s the best.”
“Overall, I think Southgate was too slow to change. Even though Palmer and Watkins helped secure the win against the Netherlands, who wouldn’t have played them? Most coaches would have done so, but perhaps brought them on earlier. Southgate always seemed to be a step behind.”
