Ahead of the Euro Cup final between England and Spain, Spanish international Rodri expressed in an interview that he hopes his Manchester City teammate Phil Foden does not feature in England’s starting lineup. This, according to Rodri, would increase Spain’s chances of lifting the trophy.
Spain’s performance leading up to the Euro Cup final has been more convincing, almost bulldozing their way into the final. In contrast, Southgate’s England team has stumbled through their matches, but one cannot deny the English players’ fighting spirit and tenacity. In summary, both teams have taken completely different paths to reach the final.
The Euro Cup final will also be a clash among club teammates, with Rodri representing Spain from Manchester City, while Foden, Kyle Walker, and Stones will play for England.
In an interview with Spanish media, Rodri had high praise for Foden, “England has many outstanding players. I have a good relationship with Foden, and I know him well since we play together at Manchester City. He is a player we must keep under control as he naturally finds opportunities in tight spaces.”
Rodri stated that if he could choose one player to be excluded from England’s starting lineup, it would undoubtedly be Foden. However, Rodri believes that he would prefer to see England and Spain face off with their full-strength squads, as this would make the eventual champion more prestigious.
