According to a report published by South Korean sports news outlet Ilgan Sports, citizens have launched a petition demanding a thorough investigation and the dissolution of the Korea Football Association (KFA) in the wake of the Hong Myung-bo incident.
A public consent petition titled “Petition for an Audit and Dissolution of the Korea Football Association” has been posted on the National Assembly’s website. The petition process is ongoing. If more than 50,000 signatures are gathered within 30 days from the day of its disclosure until the 16th of the following month, it will be submitted to the relevant standing committee of the National Assembly.
One petitioner stated: “It is ridiculous that the entire nation is bearing the brunt due to the Korea Football Association President and his executives and employees ignoring fair administrative procedures to manage the national team and privatizing the association entirely just to maintain the operation of the national team. We demand a thorough investigation and the dissolution of the Korea Football Association.”
He continued: “A fool who is evaluated as a third-rate coach by the world and exhibits irresponsible behavior – Klinsmann – was appointed due to the personal greed of the association president, without regard for a fair coaching selection procedure.”
The petitioner also remarked, “If there were any conscience left when faced with public criticism for these mistakes, one would at least make sincere efforts to select an excellent foreign head coach when choosing a new head coach. But even in this situation, KFA President Chung Mong-gyu and the members of the power reinforcement committee were blinded by their own interests, attempting to appoint and dismiss a foreign head coach by deceiving the public. In fact, they had planned from the beginning to appoint Coach Hong Myung-bo, which was a foregone conclusion.”
