On July 16th, Gareth Southgate resigned from his position as the head coach of the England national team. Commentator Zhan Jun shared his views, stating that Southgate had done his best and that he is most looking forward to Arsène Wenger taking over.
Zhan Jun commented, “Southgate has done everything within his capabilities, surpassing predecessors with bigger names. During his tenure, four major tournaments made Three Lions fans feel that ‘England is strong’ is no longer an illusion. The team needs a new manager who is ambitious, adopts a more proactive playing style, and can coordinate the attacking ‘dream team’ up front.”
“Among local coaches, Eddie Howe is still under contract with Newcastle United, making Graham Potter, currently unemployed, a better fit. As for foreign coaches who have previously managed in the Premier League? Two former Chelsea bosses: Pochettino took so long last season to shape up Chelsea, his leadership abilities are questionable; Tuchel, who stood shoulder-to-shoulder with Chelsea during tough times, garners higher hopes. Klopp is enjoying retirement and won’t return anytime soon. My top choice: Arsène Wenger!!”
