On July 17, Elena Fort, Vice President of Barcelona, spoke to the Mundo Deportivo about topics including the Camp Nou renovation project.
On the construction schedule:
“We are proceeding as planned, everything is on track. We intend to celebrate and officially reopen the Camp Nou on November 29, a symbolic day marking our club’s 125th anniversary. However, it’s difficult to pinpoint the exact date, but we can assure that before the end of this year, Camp Nou will successfully return.”
“In our agreement with the construction company, if they fail to deliver 60% of the construction results by the year-end, they will incur penalties. Of course, I believe they will do well; this is not an issue.”
On changes to the stadium:
“There have been changes to the VIP seating areas, which we have relocated between the second and third tiers. Additionally, due to the limited lifespan of the third tier, we decided to dismantle it and plan for its reconstruction.”
“We have significantly increased the number of VIP seats, from around 1,000 to approximately 7,000-9,000. Beyond the stadium itself, we also have a 20-hectare park that includes two sports halls and an ice rink.”
On the budget for the project:
“We have a budget of €1.5 billion, and there is foreign oversight to ensure that such a substantial sum is not misused. Everything is progressing as planned, and we are all satisfied with the budget management.”
On the Nou Camp Lluita plan:
“This was actually a mistake; the original plan was to build a Nou Camp Lluita stadium with a capacity for 10,000 fans, but this capacity was too small. It could not support major events for the club, so we will need to reassess the Nou Camp Lluita plan.”
“Preliminarily set to begin in 2025 and completed in 2027, but this is for later consideration; currently, our focus is solely on Camp Nou.”
