During the 2024 winter transfer window, left-back Coen, who was playing for Hannover 96 in the German second division, opted to join Turkish giants Galatasaray. The transfer fee amounted to a fixed €3.5 million plus a variable €0.5 million bonus (the variable component includes appearance fees and championship bonuses), totaling approximately €4 million.
This transfer fee is no small sum for a club in the German second division, with Hannover 96 factoring it into their total budget of €16 million for the 2024/25 season.
However, Hannover 96’s president, Martin Kind, told German media outlet Bild that “Galatasaray failed to make timely payment for Coen’s transfer; they did not deposit the funds into our account. We have already lodged an appeal with UEFA and are pursuing legal action.”
Since joining Galatasaray, Coen has made 14 appearances for the team, all as a starter, scoring one goal and providing two assists, contributing to the team winning the Turkish Super League title.
