On July 17, according to an exclusive report by Football Insider, Chelsea forward Palmer has been trying to convince Watkins to transfer to Chelsea this summer during the Euros, and after the tournament’s end, he urged Chelsea to sign this Aston Villa striker.
The report states that Palmer and Watkins developed a close friendship while playing for the England team during this summer’s Euros. Palmer hopes to partner with Watkins up front at the club level as well. Palmer told the 28-year-old Watkins that if he transfers this summer, their chemistry could propel Chelsea to new heights next season, which may be a key factor in Watkins considering a move.
Both Palmer and Watkins were used as substitutes throughout the entire Euro 2024 tournament but made significant impacts in the games. Palmer assisted Watkins’ decisive goal in the semi-finals and also equalized for England in the final. Both players had impressive seasons in the league last year, with Watkins scoring 19 goals and Palmer netting 22.
It is understood that Chelsea is willing to include the coveted midfielder Gallagher, who is desired by Villa, in the transfer negotiations. The report playfully adds, “Palmer and Watkins must have talked a lot about linking up on the bench during the Euros.”
