According to Spanish outlet AS, Austria head coach Rangnick has decided to include the injured Alaba in the national team’s squad for the Euros, with medical personnel from Real Madrid accompanying them throughout the tournament.
Despite a torn ACL ruling him out of the competition, Alaba will now travel with the team as part of the coaching staff. This decision came after Rangnick personally reached out to Alaba a few weeks ago, asking him to join the coaching setup. After some consideration, Alaba accepted the invitation and will be seen in the dugout wearing a coaching jacket.
Additionally, Real Madrid has shown great support by sending their medical team to assist Alaba during his recovery process while he is with the Austrian squad.
For Alaba himself, this choice means sacrificing valuable summer rest time, as he won’t get the extra vacation days typically granted to players participating in the Euros.
AS concludes that unless a miracle occurs, Alaba will not feature on the pitch as a player.
