Amelie Oudea-Castera, former French sports minister, told RMC Sport in an interview that she insists the illness of a Belgian triathlete is unrelated to the water quality of the Seine River.
Earlier reports suggested that Belgian female triathlete Michelle was hospitalized after the race and had to withdraw from the mixed relay event, leading to speculation that her condition was linked to poor water quality in the Seine River.
Oudea-Castera stated, “This is false information. In fact, the athlete was not hospitalized; there is no direct connection between her illness and swimming in the Seine River. The Belgian Olympic Committee should clarify this point. The water quality that day was particularly good, and none of the other athletes fell ill.”
