At 02:45 on September 7th, in the first round of Group B in League A of the UEFA Nations League, France will host Italy at the Parc des Princes. Before the match, French captain Mbappe attended the press conference.
A few weeks after arriving in Madrid, how are you feeling now?
“I am very happy to be here in Madrid, everything is going well, we have already won a trophy. My performance is getting better and better, I’ve scored a few goals. I always come here with the same energy and a desire to do my best for the French team.”
You are now an ambassador for French football abroad, do you feel any different from your previous status?
“There isn’t much difference, I haven’t been away for long. It’s a dream to be here and be as happy as I am with the French team. But I don’t feel much different.”
How is your physical condition? What do you think about the discussion regarding your position?
“My nose has healed, I feel much better. Physically and mentally, I am in good shape, and I am very happy. Regarding the issue of position, I have already mentioned during the preparation period that I can play in three positions. Sometimes adjustments are needed, but overall, there hasn’t been much change.”
Do you still have any aftereffects from your nasal bone fracture?
“During the medical examination in Madrid, they said surgery was not necessary. I have no problems breathing or sleeping.”
After the end of the European Championship, you mentioned that your performance was not good. How do you view this competition now?
“I haven’t analyzed it too much, what’s done is done. We were sad, but we have moved on.”
Last March, you said you were unaffected by the situation at your club. Would you still say that now?
“I feel very good and very happy. I am playing football, I am a starter. I am in a place where I have always wanted to be. Last year, there was some distance, but throughout my career, I have always hated losing. This year, I am back to that mindset of hating to lose.”
What is your view on this edition of the UEFA Nations League? Is it a goal?
“I’m not quite sure how to position this game. We have won the title before, but there wasn’t much of a reaction. When we lose, it feels like a disaster, as if we are worth nothing. This is a game that must be won. But I still have to say, I am not quite clear on how to view it. After the European Cup, the key is to start off well, to win games with this team and show a great style of play.”
What are your thoughts on the salary dispute with Paris Saint-Germain?
“I only have good memories; this club gave me a lot, and I spent seven wonderful years there. I hope everything goes well for them.”
