In the final moments before the transfer window closed, Bundesliga team Leipzig completed two transfers, selling defender Simakan and bringing in Hietuleida. With the sale of Simakan, Leipzig’s summer transfer window revenue has once again surpassed 100 million euros, while their spending on new signings amounted to less than half of that.
The departure of Simakan has been officially announced by Leipzig; Al-Nassr spent 45 million euros to bring him in. Additionally, this summer window saw Leipzig send Dani Olmo to Barcelona and Angeliño’s loan to Roma was turned into a permanent deal. These three transactions alone pushed Leipzig’s summer window revenue over 100 million euros.
While selling players, Leipzig’s acquisitions were also cost-effective. Signing Hietuleida at the last minute, who was valued at 36 million euros by Feyenoord a year ago, cost Leipzig only 20 million euros this time, with a maximum of 23 million euros even including additional clauses.
Moreover, Leipzig signed Antonio Nusa (Club Brugge) and Vedraogo (Schalke), and loaned Havi (Paris) and Vermeulen (Atletico Madrid). The total expenditure was 50 million euros, though if Leipzig exercises the option to buy Vermeulen next year, they will have to pay an additional 20 million euros.
Overall, Leipzig continues its image as a shrewd operator in the transfer market, with transfer income far exceeding expenditure. What is more remarkable is that despite selling many players, Leipzig’s performance has remained relatively stable.
