In the opening match of Group A at the Euros, Scotland, playing with ten men, suffered a 1-5 defeat to hosts Germany. After the game, Scotland’s manager Steve Clarke spoke to the media.
Clarke told ITV, “Germany were excellent, we couldn’t live with them. We lost control very early in the first half, we didn’t give ourselves a platform to defend well, we didn’t keep the ball well, so we made it a difficult night for ourselves.”
“I think the second half, with ten men, showed great character, we managed to get a goal, and we’re disappointed to concede the fifth. The job we have to do is still in front of us. Now it’s about the response, let’s see how they respond.”
“From the start, I said four points from the group was our target. We didn’t get any points tonight, so that remains the target for the next two games.”
