The first day schedule for the 2024 Wimbledon Championships is out, featuring defending men’s singles champion Carlos Alcaraz on Centre Court and local favorite Emma Raducanu. Nine Chinese players are set to compete on the opening day: Zhang Zhizhen, Shang Juncheng, Zheng Qinwen, Yuan Yue, Wang Xiyu, Zhu Lin, Wang Yafan, Zhang Shuai, and Wang Qiang.

On Centre Court, the men’s singles titleholder and recent French Open champion, Alcaraz, seeded third, will open the tournament against a qualifier, Raynal. Raducanu follows, facing women’s singles seed No. 22 Alexandrova. The third match on Centre Court will be an all-American affair with No. 2 seed Gauff taking on Dolgopolov. Top seed Jannik Sinner and No. 5 seed Medvedev, along with women’s singles No. 3 seed Sabalenka, will begin their Wimbledon campaigns on Court 1. Azarenka and Stephens’ clash of power will take place in the fourth match on Court 2.

For the Chinese team, nine players will make their debut on Day 1. Zhang Zhizhen, playing as a seeded player in a Grand Slam for the first time, faces qualifier Jevrell on Court 5 in the second match. Wang Yafan follows against Schmiedlova. Shang Juncheng, entering the main draw by ranking for the first time, takes on qualifier Garin on Court 6 in the first match, while Wang Xiyu meets Vekic in the third match there. Women’s singles No. 8 seed Zheng Qinwen begins her Wimbledon journey on Court 18 against Chinese-American qualifier Sun LuLu in the third match; Yuan Yue faces Rus on Court 7 in the second match; Zhu Lin opens on Court 9 against Begu. Zhang Shuai, entering via a protected ranking, competes on Court 14 in the second match against No. 14 seed Kasatkina, while Wang Qiang, also with a protected ranking, plays on Court 16 in the fourth match against No. 19 seed E.
