November 19 – According to the Manchester Evening News, Manager Amorim may have uncovered a new talent for Manchester United, as he has called up a 16-year-old player to train with the first team.
Amorim recently secured his work permit and supervised his first training session with the first team on Monday. With several first-team players still involved in international matches, the Portuguese coach took the opportunity to assess some young players. Among them, 16-year-old left-footed defender Godwell Kuchuky was brought into the first team to train with the senior squad.
According to the Manchester Evening News, this is the first time the left-footed defender has trained with the first team. Previously, he often played as a starting center-back for the U18 team.
Despite his young age, Kuchuky stands out among his teammates with an impressive height of 1.95 meters, and his potential is highly regarded.
Kuchuky not only gets the chance to train with the first team but might even be included in the matchday squad for Amorim’s debut at Manchester United this weekend, as the team is currently facing a serious center-back crisis.
In last weekend’s Nations League match, Sweden defeated Slovakia 2-1, with defender Victor Lindelöf being forced off the pitch due to injury in the 26th minute. With Harry Maguire still recovering from an injury, Lindelöf’s setback further reduces Amorim’s options at center-back.
Manchester United cannot currently use French defender Léon Jéro, who transferred from Lille at a high price in the summer but has yet to make an appearance this season. The Red Devils may also be unable to rely on Lisandro Martínez, who left the Argentina national team training camp due to back issues and returned to England. This leaves Amorim with only Matthijs de Ligt and Jonny Evans as fit center-backs available.
