On November 5th, Beijing Time, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher commented on Arsenal, stating that due to the Gunners’ inferior attacking power compared to Manchester City, Mikel Arteta places a greater emphasis on defense and physicality.
Carragher had previously mentioned that the current Arsenal plays a style of football akin to Mourinho’s. Now, he further elaborates on this point: “If anyone disagrees with me, they should look at Arsenal’s current style. Because Arsenal cannot match Manchester City in attack, they are trying to compete for the Premier League title with a different style, which is focusing more on defense and physical play. The signings of Carrafioli and Merino this summer clearly demonstrate a shift towards a more physical, Mourinho-style game.”
Carragher continued: “I am not saying this to be sensational or to criticize Arsenal. The current Arsenal has shifted from valuing technically skilled players to valuing physically strong players. This is an analysis of where Arsenal is heading and how they aim to challenge for the league title.”
